In the enthusiasm to do BIG things dentists forget/ ignore trivial but basic and important aspects of Dentistry. This program on Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery will throw light on those aspects which are important from a practitioners point of view. "Dear friends,
Isn’t it great that we are in that era when technology is making life simpler for us? Technology is the edge that makes the knife sharp. Dentistry has evolved exponentially and the best possible treatment is attainable only because of the technologically advanced materials and laboratories. Why then does one dentist perform better than the other? Obviously, because it is upto the dentist to use the available advancements to the fullest and to its optimum potential. The same is true for clinical dental photography. Everybody has a digital camera nowadays. Unfortunately until we know how to use these cameras optimally, we still cannot click good photographs. Taking good dental photographs is an art that has to be learnt and practiced. And that is exactly the intention of my course. This course is an interactive course on Clinical Dental Photography aimed at making each participant, understand fully, the working of the camera as well as the practical aspect of handling SLR and point and shoot cameras for taking good dental photographs. Particular emphasis will be placed on the demonstrations in between the sessions to refine simple but important techniques. We will also be looking into practice management aspects of using and managing photographs on our computers to use it optimally for increasing the success of our treatments as well as for increasing the percentage of walk-ins converting to patients. This course will enable you  start  clicking good quality photographs for clinical use in your private practice. Please get your cameras that you will be using in your practices, if you have them, so, I can help you in clicking photographs using your cameras. Hoping to see you then! "

Dr. Ramchandra S Kabir

Dr. Kabir has completed his MDS in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics from KLE Belgaum under the able guidance of Dr.S.V.Bhagwat and Dr.Arvind Shenoy. He is a faculty at Yerala Dental college, Khargar, Navi Mumbai. He has his practice of Esthetic dentistry and Endodontics at Mulund, Mumbai. He has various articles published on Bonding and Composites.

CONFIDENCE WITH COMPOSITES

One thing that has always asked for our attention during our BDS student life is “The Composite material”. Bogged down by relative difficulty of tooth preparation & placement of silver amalgam, we as students always wished for one thing - Composites. Somehow we always wanted to lay our hands on this marvelous material, which has actually made the definition of Conservative Dentistry as an “ART”, come true.

But most of the things that we do as a BDS student are, more often than not, influenced by practices that cannot be called as Theoretical.
Composites, I maintain, are the most USER FRIENDLY materials but they are the most TECHNIQUE SENSITIVE. But, sincerely speaking, how many of us actually knew the correct knowledge of composites and its varied placement techniques after we graduated? Unfortunately, this is the drawback of our curriculum. According to one study the number of composites that one BDS student places by the time he/she passes out ranges from 0 to 4.This is the state of affairs and we wish to place composites on daily basis.

To bridge this knowledge gap, we at CDP, have formulated this Course on composites comprising of lectures on basic bonding and composites, followed by hands on course for the same. This course is one of its kinds as it concentrates solely on clinical techniques and provides the participant clinical tips that are very useful in their practice.

After attending this course, I am sure that the participants will get enhanced confidence to practicie composites, the way they should be, for effective clinical results, and YES practice as a TRUE COSMETIC DENTIST.

Dr. Rajiv Chitguppi

Post graduate in Periodontology from Govt. Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai. Reader in Periodontics, Terna Dental College, Nerul, Navi Mumbai. Rersearch Editor, IDA Times.
Scientific paper presentation at various general dentistry  and Periodontic conferences at state and national level.

"Periodontics is a branch that poses maximum hurdles in decision making when it comes to rendering optimal treatment, especially in advanced cases. It is the critical evaluation of all risk factors in combination with clinical and radiographical findings, that is required to determine the prognosis and design the treatment plan. Despite the best of the efforts by the clinician, there are several forms of periodontal diseases that show recurrence. A good understanding of the basic disease process is all that is required to educate the patient about the possibility of recurrence and minimise its chances. The course tries to highlight all such often overlooked factors that will help the clinicians to improve the quality of clinical results. Since periodontics is considered the hub of clinical dentistry around which all other branches revolve, the course aims at educating the participants about improving the overall quality of interdisciplinary dentistry. Some of the regular problems, a clinician faces day-to-day are- dentinal hypersensitivity, halitosis and mobile lower anterior teeth. the course will attempt to address these issues in detail. Further, which periodontal cases are considered as advanced cases and to be referred to a periodontist? when should one consider bone grafts and regenerative techniques? What is a good splinting procedure for mobile lower anteriors? such common questions will be analysed with evidence based scientific literature."
